Lahore: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, hosted a special ceremony to honor World Teachers' Day, highlighting the vital role of educators and announcing forthcoming selection boards for the Associate Professor and Professor cadres. The event, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, acknowledged the contributions of teachers and underscored their importance in the academic and professional development of students.
According to University of Engineering and Technology, the ceremony was organized by the Teaching Staff Association at the Chemical Seminar Hall. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, who attended as the chief guest, emphasized the need for quality teaching and research to maintain competitiveness at national and international levels. He announced that selection boards for faculty promotions to Associate Professor and Professor would be convened soon, following the completion of promotions from Lecturer to Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor to Associate Professor.
Prof. Dr. Munir highlighted the significance of transparent and merit-based advancement opportunities, which he said boost faculty morale and enhance the quality of teaching and research. He also stressed the adoption of modern teaching methodologies, including digital learning platforms and artificial intelligence, to supplement traditional lectures and foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
The Vice Chancellor called for classrooms to evolve into spaces of academic dialogue and innovation, encouraging faculty to inspire students to engage in research and present new ideas. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shoaib, President of the Teaching Staff Association, expressed gratitude to Prof. Dr. Munir for his leadership, particularly in navigating the university through a financial crisis and ensuring timely salary payments and financial stability.
The announcement of the selection boards was welcomed as a positive step in providing career progression opportunities for faculty members. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of Best Teacher Awards, recognizing outstanding teaching performance, and a luncheon for the attendees.
