Merit-Based Reforms Advocated for Sindh’s Public Appointments, Says PDP Chairman

KARACHI: The call for a merit-based system in Sindh's public sector is gaining momentum, as Altaf Shakoor, Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, emphasized the need for reforms to ensure that qualifications and performance are prioritized in public appointments, admissions, and opportunities. Shakoor highlighted the importance of transparent and fair systems to boost public confidence and improve institutional efficiency.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor advocated for the implementation of a single provincial domicile system to replace the current rural-urban domicile categories. He argued that such reforms are essential to foster provincial unity and open competition, although he acknowledged the need for safeguards to ensure equitable opportunities for communities with historically limited access to resources. Shakoor emphasized that any transition should involve broad consultation and be complemented by initiatives to address educational and economic disparities across different regions of Sindh.
