ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan emphasized the nation's steadfast commitment to international peace and the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving lasting global harmony. In a statement marking the International Day of Peace, the president highlighted the theme, "Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day," underscoring the necessity of sustained peace efforts at all levels.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari reiterated Pakistan's dedication to an inclusive multilateral system, centered on the United Nations, and advocated for the peaceful settlement of disputes through collective action. He praised the work of Pakistani peacekeepers in UN missions worldwide, acknowledging their contribution to protecting civilians and fostering conditions for peace amid challenging circumstances.

President Zardari highlighted Pakistan's role in mediating tensions between Iran and the United States, citing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a pivotal step toward de-escalation. He noted the progress made in high-level talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, and affirmed Pakistan's ongoing commitment to dialogue and enduring peace in the region and beyond.

The president also referenced the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2788, sponsored by Pakistan, as a significant affirmation of the international community's dedication to peaceful dispute resolution. He emphasized that true peace cannot be achieved where self-determination is denied, referencing the situations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

On this International Day of Peace, President Zardari called on the global community to uphold the UN Charter, respect international law, and support peaceful resolutions to disputes.
