KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi General Secretary Arslan Khalid has voiced strong opposition to the Sindh government's newly introduced Local Government Amendment Bill 2026, condemning it as a setback for democracy and a system of 'Wadera Shahi Plus'. Khalid rejected the legitimacy of Murtaza Wahab as the Mayor of Karachi, asserting that Wahab's position is supported by questionable means, including the use of Form-47 and alleged coercion tactics.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khalid accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of undermining local government institutions through the new legislation, describing it as a violation of constitutional principles. Khalid criticized the PPP's approach, arguing that the bill aims to secure the party's control over Karachi's resources by diminishing the powers of local representatives. He also accused Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah of prioritizing the PPP's interests over Karachi's role as an economic hub, alleging misuse of tax revenue for personal benefits.

Khalid further addressed the political dynamics in Sindh, condemning what he described as insincere political maneuvers related to the province's division. He emphasized PTI's commitment to preserving Sindh's geographical integrity and criticized the PPP's handling of resources and governance. Khalid also targeted Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accusing him of promoting democracy at the national level while leading a repressive regime within Sindh. Khalid concluded by demanding the transfer of economic and administrative powers to Karachi to address longstanding issues faced by the city.
