Quetta: The 2013 general elections in Balochistan recorded a turnout of 40.7% for the Provincial Assembly, with 1.36 million votes cast out of 3.34 million registered voters.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, Balochistan, which is Pakistan's largest province by land area but the least populous, has historically experienced lower voter turnout due to security conditions and challenging geographical factors. The province's electorate, consisting of 1.91 million male voters and 1.42 million female voters, reflects a significant gender gap of 0.49 million, representing 14.7% of registered voters.
The 2013 elections saw Balochistan recording the lowest provincial assembly turnout among Pakistan's four provinces, with turnout figures falling below 33% in six of the twelve election cycles. Despite the lack of gender-disaggregated voting data for these elections, the rejection rate for ballots was 5.2%, the highest among the provinces, attributed to literacy challenges and administrative complexities.
Balochistan's electorate numbers have grown significantly over the years, from under one million in 1970 to 5.4 million in 2024, though the province continues to have the smallest voter count in absolute terms. The province's electoral history highlights a high of 44.6% turnout in 1970 and a low of 19.3% in 1977.
