KHAIRPUR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule for a by-election in the PS-30 Khairpur-V constituency, set to take place on August 16, 2026. This follows the passing of Naeem Ahmed Kharal, the former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), who represented the seat after securing a significant 59 percent of the vote in the 2024 General Elections.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, the electoral process will commence with a public notice from Returning Officers on July 6, 2026, inviting candidates to submit their nomination papers between July 8 and 10. The list of nominees will be posted on July 11, and the scrutiny of these nominations will conclude by July 16. After resolving any appeals regarding the scrutiny process, a revised list of candidates will be released on July 28. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until July 29, with election symbols being assigned the following day.
In 2026, several other by-elections were announced, including those for NA-256 Khuzdar and three Punjab Assembly seats. However, the Punjab seats were filled without polling, as candidates from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were declared elected unopposed. The by-election for NA-256 Khuzdar was postponed due to security concerns, leaving the seat vacant since the resignation of Sardar Akhtar Mengal.
