Theatre Play “Begum Jaan” Captivates Audience at Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi

Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi's School of Visual and Performing Arts presented "Begum Jaan," the second play in its alumni series, at Studio II, Ahmed Shah Building. The production, directed by alumna Alaiza Jawaid and featuring a script by Javed Siddiqui, engaged viewers with its narrative and performances. According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, "Begum Jaan" explores the life of a former courtesan and artist, whose talents once attracted influential admirers. The play delves into her struggles with aging and neglect, focusing on themes of loneliness and dignity. Key characters include Begum Jaan, her granddaughter Zarina, and journalist Sanjay Pandey, who seeks to reveal the truth behind letters from prominent figures.
