Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Emphasizes Human Rights as Core of Democracy

KARACHI: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has emphasized the integral role of human rights in democracy, underscoring his party’s unwavering commitment to the dignity, freedom, and equal rights for all Pakistanis.

In a statement released by the Media Cell Bilawal House, Bhutto Zardari highlighted Human Rights Day as an opportunity to transform rights into tangible access to education, healthcare, livelihoods, and justice. He stated, “Human rights belong to every person by virtue of being human, not privilege or power.”

Reflecting on the PPP’s historical legacy under the leadership of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, Bhutto Zardari urged both institutions and citizens to actively defend civil liberties, eliminate discrimination, and foster inclusive social and economic environments. He stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no individual is marginalized.

Additionally, Bhutto Zardari paid tribute to human rights defenders, describing their bravery as the “conscience of the nation.” He reaffirmed the PPP’s dedication to advocating for a rights-based, compassionate Pakistan, where women, children, minorities, persons with disabilities, workers, and vulnerable individuals live with dignity and opportunity.
