Lahore: South Africa has named its squad for the opening match of the ODI tri-series against New Zealand, scheduled to take place in Lahore on February 10. The squad includes the return of pacer Gerald Coetzee, who has recovered from a recent injury.
According to a statement by International Cricket Council, South Africa’s white-ball coach, Rob Walter, announced a 12-man squad for the first match, featuring Coetzee, who has been sidelined since his performance against Sri Lanka in November 2024 due to a left injury setback.
The team will see fresh faces with six uncapped players included in the lineup led by Temba Bavuma. The new additions are Meeka-eel Prince, Gideon Peters, Eathan Bosch, and Mihlali Mpongwana, who are yet to make their international debuts. Meanwhile, Matthew Breetzke and Senuran Muthusamy bring experience from their previous appearances in Tests and T20Is.
The squad is expected to undergo changes for the remaining matches of the series after the completion of the SA20 league. Players like Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen are anticipated to join the team from the second game onwards.
This tri-series in Pakistan serves as preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which kicks off on February 19.
