LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali highlighted the need for students to adapt to modern technology and the evolving job market during a gathering to mark World Fisheries Day. The event, organized by the university’s Department of Zoology Fish Research Farm in collaboration with Supreme Aqua-Feed, included an awareness walk, a seminar on aquatic life, and an exhibition showcasing various fish species.
Prof. Dr. Ali encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship instead of traditional job-seeking post-graduation. He emphasized revising training manuals to better prepare students for international markets and underscored the importance of women’s participation in business to strengthen both family and national economies.
The event was attended by key figures such as DG Fisheries Rana Muhammad Saleem, faculty members, and a large number of students. Saleem emphasized the government’s efforts to promote the fisheries sector by involving all stakeholders and highlighted the establishment of six new aqua business hubs in Punjab.
Other speakers, including Abdul Majeed Cheema and Dr. Naeem Khan, urged the adoption of modern techniques to enhance fisheries production and stressed the need for research focused on practical issues. Noor Khan noted the growing fish farming sector in Pakistan and the significant scope for trained human resources, calling for student involvement in governmental fish farming schemes.
The event provided students with practical learning opportunities in the fisheries sector, with the Vice Chancellor and others visiting various fish ponds on the university grounds.
