Karachi: The 37th day of the World Culture Festival in Karachi was marked by an array of cultural activities, including a notable screening of the Palestinian Oscar-winning film, “No Other Land.” This event was complemented by interactive sessions, workshops, and performances that spanned various artistic disciplines.
The festival’s film session featured an in-depth discussion on the current situation in Palestine, led by Palestinian Ambassador Dr. Zuhair Mohammad Hamadallah Zaid. Dr. Zaid expressed gratitude for the platform provided by the Arts Council and highlighted the cultural and historical significance portrayed in “No Other Land.” He emphasized that the ongoing struggle is not just about land but identity and heritage, sharing personal insights from his family’s history in the Palestinian resistance.
President of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Palestine, citing the global youth’s increasing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. He underscored the critical nature of the Palestinian situation on the world stage today.
Italian graphic designer Goffredo Puccetti conducted a session on “Graphic Design & Performing Arts,” where he introduced the concept of global monograms and the importance of meaningful visual identities. This was followed by a theatre workshop, “Scalambra,” led by actress Francesca Bizzari, which focused on enhancing acting techniques and stage presence.
The day’s theatre segment included “Gathering Dust,” a series of four short plays by a Sri Lankan theatre group. Among these, “Patterns of Our Genocides,” touching on the Palestinian narrative, received particular acclaim alongside “Last Bus Eke Kathawa,” “Girls at Checkpoints,” and “The Certificate.”
The evening concluded with Dance Night 4.0, featuring performances by artists from Germany, Pakistan, Cameroon, Syria, and the Sovapa students. The dynamic display of talent left the audience in awe, with prolonged applause echoing in the packed auditorium.
