Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities, urging for their full participation in national life as the nation marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The government, he stated, is actively working through federal and provincial bodies to enhance accessibility, education, healthcare, mobility, and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Initiatives such as special logos on National Identity Cards, issuance of disability certificates, and broader access to social protection schemes are among the measures being implemented.
President Zardari highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive environment with accessible infrastructure and public services. He stressed the need to eliminate physical and social barriers and to change attitudes that hinder the independence of persons with disabilities.
He called upon citizens, institutions, civil society, and international partners to support and respect the identity of persons with disabilities. Their involvement in education, entrepreneurship, public service, and national development is crucial for the country’s future.
President Zardari urged collective action to ensure no one is left behind and emphasized that inclusion should be reflected in daily actions and decisions. He expressed hope for a Pakistan that is accessible and inclusive for all.
