Workshop on Islamic International Law Concludes at IIUI Shariah Academy

Islamabad: A two-day workshop titled “Islamic International Law: Classical Concept and Contemporary Scenario” has concluded at the Shariah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), drawing more than 90 participants from various educational backgrounds to discuss pivotal issues concerning Islamic international law.

According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the event’s closing ceremony was addressed by Mr. Khurshid Nadim, Chairman of the National Rahmatul-lil-Alameen wa Khatam an-Nabiyyin Authority, who served as the chief guest. In his keynote address, Mr. Nadim discussed the challenges Muslims encounter at the international level and stressed the significance of integrating contemporary logic with Islamic theological perspectives to address modern issues.

Organized in collaboration with Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot, the workshop featured discussions led by experts in the field. Topics covered included the Islamic law of war and peace, treaties from the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), human rights in Islamic and international law, the nature of relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims, and current challenges to Islamic international law.

The lineup of speakers included Prof. Dr. Atta Ullah Faizi, Director-General of the Shariah Academy; Prof. Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, Director-General of the Islamic Research Institute; Barrister Zafrullah Khan, former Federal Minister of Law; Sahibzada Qamar ul Haq, Head of Jamia Muhammadi Sharif; Dr. Atta ul Mustafa, Lecturer at the Faculty of Shariah and Law; and Hafiz Ahmad Waqas, Lecturer at the Shariah Academy.

Participants noted that the workshop offered a platform to explore the relationship between classical Islamic concepts and contemporary legal issues. They emphasized the necessity for ongoing dialogue and academic engagement to tackle emerging challenges in the field.
