The South Centres Call for Papers on Operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund for Climate Change –

Islamabad, August 28, 2023 (PPI-OT): The 27th United Nations Climate Conference (COP 27) took the historic decision of establishing a Loss and Damage Fund. After decades of demands from climate-vulnerable developing countries, this is an important step to provide financial assistance to nations impacted by the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels, heatwaves, desertification, bushfires and other extreme events. However, this Fund needs to be operationalized, including what form it should take, which countries should contribute, and how the money will be raised and allocated to compensate for loss and damage.

The South Centre has invited established scholars, early career academics, PhD students and practitioners (policy makers, lawyers) to submit papers addressing the issues above. In this regard, the South Centre has invited Abstracts that are to be submitted along with CV of the author(s), before 1st September 2023. The final paper is to be submitted by 15th October 2023, in accordance with the format of the South Centre’s Research Paper. An honorarium of USD 1,000 will be offered for the best-completed full paper that meets the standards of publication. The South Centre may also publish other accepted papers.

The interested individuals, belonging to the esteemed Centres of Excellence of COMSATS, may send the abstract proposal (up to 700 words) by email to Ms. Xin Cui ([email protected]) with copy to ([email protected] and [email protected]) having subject: “Submission: Call for papers on operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund and Global Stocktake under the UNFCCC” along with CV.
