Lahore, February 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Faculty of Management Studies, the University of Central Punjab, in collaboration with Samsung Pakistan, successfully organized a fully funded certified training on Artificial Intelligence (AI) IT students of Faculty of Information Technology (FOIT) conducted from 4th October -15th December 2021. This funded training was proposed and won by Ms Ambreen Khursheed (Senior Lecturer, UCP) and executed by Dr Faisal Mustafa (Provost/ Dean, UCP) in collaboration with Capital University of Science and Technology and Muhammad Ali Jinnah University. As a result, more than 240 students benefitted from the initiative.

As part of Samsung’s Corporate Citizen project, Samsung Innovation Campus aimed to benefit by educating members of the youth who aspire to be in a vocation related to technology. This training was designed to help youth in learning future-proof skills. At UCP, the faculty members from FOIT and FMS participated in this SIC training as trainers for the extensive course of Artificial Intelligence and Job Preparation Skills training.

As a result, the students of SIC training learned AI using the concrete foundation of mathematics and got experience of machine learning tools for solving real-world problems. This training also equipped students with skills for designing, implementing and communicating results of AI through the capstone AI project. Additionally, students understood the algorithms, the statistical and computational tasks of AI technology, and job preparation skills. This training course is completed at three universities under the PGC group, including the University of Central Punjab, Lahore Capital University of Science and Technology, Islamabad and Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi.

This initiative was taken by Ms Ambreen Khursheed, the focal person for all four batches of this successful training conducted at three universities (the University of Central Punjab, Capital University of Science and Technology and Muhammad Ali Jinnah University). This training not only equipped students with AI skills but also proved a crucial step towards strengthening industry-academia linkage.

Lahore, February 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):To foster and strengthen industrial linkages across the food sector in Pakistan, an MoU signing ceremony was organized at UCP with Qarshi Research International (QRI) on Feb 15, 2022. Director ORIC-UCP, and Dr. Amjad Aqeel, Chief Operation Officer – QRI chaired the event along with Dean FoLS, Dr. Javed Iqbal, and HoD Food Science Department, Dr. Raza Hussain.

Through this MoU, both organizations have formally joined hands to access the R and D and testing facilities of each other. This will also enable enhanced placement and internship opportunities for students and their exposure to industrial standards by frequent site visits. Having support from such leading industries will help UCP become an internationally recognized university in Food Science and Technology.

Lahore, February 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):An MoU signing ceremony was organized on Feb 15, 2022, between the University of Central Punjab and Standard Food and Beverages (SFB). The MoU materialized in direct relevance to UCP’s recent efforts for addressing the challenges faced by the food industry in Pakistan. The state-of-the-art R and D facilities in Food Sciences available on UCP campus will greatly help the food sector of Pakistan as a result of recent collaborations with various industrial partners.

The MoU between UCP and SFB entails the processing of various fruits and vegetables and offering scientific advice to SFB frequently. Moreover, collaborative research projects will be initiated under the ambit of this MoU which will involve the exchange of knowledge resources and students. The vision of the UCP leadership is active pursuit of such industrial collaborations for transforming the economy of Pakistan.

Lahore, February 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):“An MoU signing ceremony between UCP and Don Valley Pharmaceuticals was held at University of Central Punjab Lahore on 3 February 2022. The meeting was presided by Dr Nassar Ikram, Pro Rector University of Central Punjab. On behalf of Don Valley, the MoU was signed by Dr Shehla Javed Akram, CEO Don Valley Pharmaceuticals, Lahore.

This MoU is in line with the strategic vision of UCP regarding stronger Industry-Academia linkages, which will open up new horizons for collaborative research and development and opportunities for the graduates of UCP to be hired for training and employment. Congratulations to Dr Muhammad Zaman, Associate Professor FOP and Dr Mahtab Ahmad Khan, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy for the much-needed step forward for strengthening University-Industrial linkage and the accomplishment of this collaboration.”

Lahore, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):UCP with a vision of youth empowerment encourages its students to bring novel and innovative ideas addressing a spectrum of issues in society. To equip the students with the skills and knowledge desired to come up with innovative ideas, an introductory session on the TiE Global Pitch Competition was organized at UCP on Feb 09, 2022, targeting students across all domains. Delegates from TiE were taken online to provide general guidelines about the competition with an emphasis on nurturing the startups.

This program features a global pitch competition that is purely designed for university start-ups and brings together startups, TiE members, external mentors, coaches, and ecosystem partners. Some of the potential benefits that it offers to the participating students are cash prizes worth USD 100,000, global internship opportunities, free workshops and boot camps on building a resume and entrepreneurial skills, and mentorship from business leaders across the globe.
