Karachi: On the 31st day of the World Culture Festival 2025, organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Singapore’s Maya Dance Company, featuring dancers with Down syndrome, captivated the audience with their heartfelt performances. The event, part of a 39-day festival, also included film screenings, workshops, plays, and a musical concert.
The day’s activities commenced with a theatre workshop led by Lebanese artist Sani Abdul Baqi, aimed at enhancing acting skills among students of the Arts Council Theatre Academy. The Pakistani film “Nayab” was also screened, followed by a discussion with actor Fawad Khan, who shared his insights on the project and his television career.
A highlight of the day was an energetic dance performance by Malian artist Lassina Kone, which drew applause and gratitude from Arts Council President Muhammad Ahmed Shah. The lineup also featured two theatre plays: “Saalgirah,” directed by Farhan Alam, and “Creditors,” directed by Azaib Khan, both exploring complex themes of relationships and identity.
During Dance Night 3.0, the spotlight was on the Maya Dance Theatre Company from Singapore, whose dancers with Down syndrome delivered inspiring performances depicting life’s challenges. Norway’s Navid Rezvani also performed, honoring Iranian women through Hip Hop, while Pakistan’s Jacket dance group added to the evening’s vibrancy.
The day concluded with The Mystic Caravan, a musical concert featuring artists like Wahab Bugti, Mai Dhai, Ahsan Bari, and Fazal Jatt, who enthralled the audience with their soulful renditions.
