Saeed Ghani Lauds Korangi Industrialists for Supporting Education of Laborers’ Children

Karachi: Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, has praised the exceptional philanthropic support extended by the industrialists of Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) in Karachi to ensure that the children of the labourers employed by them get quality school education. The minister highlighted this commitment during his speech at the inauguration of the Al-Badar campus, a new school operated by the non-profit Green Crescent Trust (GCT) in the Sharifabad locality of KIA.

According to Green Crescent Trust, the Al-Badar campus marks the 170th charitable school under the GCT, which aims to provide education to children from underprivileged backgrounds in Sindh. Over 2,222 children, 60% of whom are girls, attend the GCT’s schools in the Sharifabad and adjacent Mehran Town localities. These areas are primarily populated by labourers from KIA, emphasizing the critical role of these educational initiatives. The new school, featuring state-of-the-art facilities and over 350 students, was constructed in just five months, demonstrating a rapid commitment to educational development.

The GCT has been active for 30 years, offering continuous educational support to children in Sindh without interruption. Ghani expressed appreciation for KIA’s businessmen, who have consistently supported the trust, ensuring that the children of industrial workers receive a good education. He noted that such philanthropic efforts set a strong example for businessmen across the country to support educational initiatives.

GCT CEO Zahid Saeed acknowledged the generosity of an anonymous leading donor who helped fund the new school, which supports the education of 5,000 students across GCT schools. This effort is part of a broader campaign to address illiteracy in Pakistan, with the trust planning to expand its network to over 250 schools by 2025, aiming to enroll 100,000 out-of-school children.
