Punjab University Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar and Walk

Lahore: The Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS), in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Organization, Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, Atomic Energy Cancer Hospital Inmol Lahore, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, and Al-Habib Pharmaceuticals, organized a one-day seminar and awareness walk on breast cancer, aimed at educating students and the community on the importance of early detection and prevention.

According to University of the Punjab, the event opened with a Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer awareness walk involving students and faculty members. Dr. Rubeena Zakar, Director of ISCS, addressed the attendees, stressing the importance of proactive health measures and the role of community support in combating breast cancer. She highlighted the need to dispel myths surrounding the disease to empower individuals in making informed health choices.

Dr. Wajeeha Anjum, a clinical oncologist from Inmol Cancer Hospital, gave an in-depth presentation on early detection and preventive lifestyle choices, presenting global, national, and local statistics on breast cancer. She encouraged students to practice self-examinations to promote early detection. Additionally, Dr. Amna Shami, Director of Inmol Cancer Hospital, emphasized the importance of community involvement and praised organizations like the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for their contributions to the fight against breast cancer.

Students from the BS Nutrition and Dietetics program also set up stalls showcasing cancer-preventative foods, which received positive responses from participants, reinforcing the seminar’s message on lifestyle choices in cancer prevention.
