LAHORE: Punjab University Department of Archaeology and the Institute of Archaeology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences have entered into a partnership to advance archaeological research and promote historical connections between Pakistan and China. The agreement, signed in a ceremony at the Vice Chancellor’s office of Punjab University, aims to foster collaboration in scientific research projects as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s One Belt One Road Initiative.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlines a joint commitment to explore and excavate potential archaeological sites linked to the ancient Indus Valley and Chinese civilizations. The collaboration seeks to uncover historical ties and enhance the understanding of these two significant cultures through systematic research.
The signing ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali and senior researchers from the Chinese Institute of Archaeology such as Dr. Tong Tao and Dr. Li Xinchen. Also present were Assistant Researchers Dr. Ai Wanqiao and Dr. Quo Jing, Researcher Dr. Jia Hui, Director of Punjab Archaeology Muhammad Iqbal Khan Munj, PU Director External Linkages Dr. Yaamina Salman, Chairman Department of Archaeology Dr. Muhammad Hameed, and Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Azeem.
The collaboration aims to achieve long-term goals beyond research, focusing on the conservation of archaeological sites, raising awareness, and developing tourism linked to these historical findings. This partnership represents a significant step in strengthening cultural and academic ties between Pakistan and China.
