Lahore: An event at Fatima Jinnah Medical University gathered prominent medical professionals to discuss the role of women in medicine. The seminar, featuring renowned experts such as Dr. Sarah Clarke and Dr. Sebastian Alexander, highlighted achievements and challenges in the field.
Dr. Sarah Clarke, a respected international cardiologist and past president of the Royal College of Physicians, London, served as the chief guest. She was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, along with other faculty members.
The event commenced with the recitation of a holy verse and the national anthem. In his address, Prof. Gondal highlighted the university’s recent milestones, including a prestigious teaching award and the university’s efforts during the pandemic.
Dr. Clarke expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized the importance of women in medicine. She encouraged attendees to enhance their professional relationships and self-esteem while being cautious of social media’s influence.
Dr. Asma Ahmed from Aga Khan University Hospital delivered a lecture on navigating challenges and opportunities for women in medicine in Pakistan. Dr. Asad Rahim offered insights from a male perspective, while Dr. Alexander discussed women’s health care in the UK.
The seminar also included talks on physician burnout and women’s workplace rights from an Islamic viewpoint. A question and answer session provided further engagement with the audience.
The event concluded with Vice Chancellor Prof. Gondal presenting an honorary shield and a university history book to Dr. Clarke as a token of appreciation. The seminar saw participation from faculty members and a significant number of students.
