President Zardari Advocates Strengthened Trade Ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina

Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan has emphasized the importance of bolstering business and trade relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. His remarks came during a meeting with the Bosnian Ambassador, Mr. Emin Cohodarevic, at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad. The President proposed initiatives including the opening of banks, trading in local currencies, and enhancing barter trade as means to deepen bilateral economic ties.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, during their discussions, President Zardari highlighted the longstanding, friendly relations between the two countries, which span nearly three decades. He expressed a desire for continued bilateral engagements to explore new avenues of cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual economic interest. The Ambassador, for his part, expressed his country’s intent to expand relationships with Pakistan across various sectors, including economy, security, and culture, noting particularly promising opportunities in food, tourism, and textiles.

The meeting also addressed historical support, with the Ambassador thanking Pakistan for its assistance during the 1990s Bosnian War. Additionally, he sought Pakistan’s backing for a draft resolution concerning Srebrenica at the United Nations General Assembly, to which President Zardari assured that Pakistan would examine the request favorably, reiterating solidarity with the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica tragedy. The Ambassador extended an invitation to President Zardari to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina to further economic cooperation.
