Pasban Democratic Party Calls for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Release in Upcoming Independence Day Rally

Karachi: The Pasban Democratic Party has announced its full support for the “Free Aafia Independence Day Rally” scheduled for August 13, advocating for the return of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui from American custody.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Iqbal Hashmi, a prominent figure within the party, emphasized the urgent need for Pakistan’s decision-makers to take decisive action towards Siddiqui’s release. The rally coincides with the 21st anniversary of Siddiqui’s detention, marking over two decades since her controversial imprisonment amid the so-called war on terror, during which she was accused and subsequently detained under contentious circumstances.

Hashmi highlighted that with the end of the war and the release of other prisoners, no justification remains for Siddiqui’s continued imprisonment, especially given claims of her proven innocence. He criticized the disparity in treatment between ordinary citizens and the elite in Pakistan, questioning the foundational values of justice and equality in the country. Hashmi’s call to action includes a demand for immediate government intervention to facilitate Siddiqui’s return, describing her as the “daughter of the nation” whose release is both a moral obligation and a national duty.
