Pakistan Army Dominates at National Karate Championship in Lahore

Lahore: The Inter-Department National Karate Championship concluded today at Nishtar Park Sports Complex, with the Pakistan Army securing a sweeping victory. Dominating both the men’s and women’s events, the Army’s athletes showcased superior skill and coordination, clinching numerous medals, including multiple golds.

According to Pakistan Karate Federation, the Pakistan Army emerged as the top performer, garnering eight gold and two bronze medals in the men’s category, followed by WAPDA and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), which placed second and third, respectively. Standout performances included Usman Shafique, who excelled in the below 50 kg category by winning a gold medal. Additionally, Saadi Ghulam Abbas, an Asian gold medalist representing WAPDA, secured a gold in the below 84 kg category with an unmatched score of 8-0 in all his fights.

In the women’s competition, the Army continued its dominance by securing eight gold medals and one silver. Laiba Zia, a South Asian gold medalist, and MaGul, another exceptional athlete from the Army team, both delivered remarkable performances. Zia triumphed in the below 55 kg category, while MaGul won two gold medals, one in below 61 kg and another in team kumite.

The closing and prize distribution ceremony was graced by CSP officer Miss Muqadas Maan as the chief guest, alongside Mr. Ahmad Baig, President of the Pakistan Karate Federation, who distributed medals and trophies to the winners.

This championship not only highlighted the exceptional talents of individual athletes but also underscored the rigorous training and discipline within the departments, particularly the Pakistan Army, setting a high standard for future competitions in the sport.
