Islamabad: The Faculty of Languages and Literature at the International Islamic University Islamabad has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing academic engagement for students during the summer break. The program, titled Summer Seminars on Linguistics and Poetics, consists of ten weekly online sessions designed to foster intellectual growth in linguistics, literary studies, and poetics.
The inaugural session, “The Identity Crisis of the Humanities: Navigating Careers and Confusions,” was led by Ahmad Bilal, a writing instructor from Bowling Green State University in the United States. In his presentation, Mr. Bilal addressed the challenges posed by the commodification and commercialization of knowledge within academia. He also explored how humanities scholars can make meaningful contributions to social development.
Professor Dr. Fauzia Janjua, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized the need for young researchers to adapt to the changing demands of the modern world through technological innovation and interdisciplinary learning. The session was hosted by Dr. Muhammad Sheeraz Dasti, Incharge of the English Department, and attended by graduate students and faculty members, including Dr. Hafiz Abid Masood and Dr. Ameer Sultan.
The seminar series is intended as a platform for critical discussion, offering students and faculty an opportunity to engage deeply with contemporary issues in their fields throughout the summer months.
