Lahore: Forman Christian College (FCCU), in partnership with WWF-Pakistan, hosted a symposium on September 12, 2024, focusing on various aspects of environmental conservation. The event aimed to foster awareness and underscore the significance of sustainable practices across diverse environmental fronts.
According to Forman Christian College, the symposium featured a series of discussions led by distinguished speakers from both local and international organizations. The opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Jonathan Addleton, Rector of FCCU, followed by an overview of the college and its environmental initiatives by Dr. Derk Bakker, Chairperson of the Department of Environmental Sciences.
Highlights of the event included presentations on global and local conservation efforts. Hammad Naqi Khan, DG/CEO of WWF-Pakistan, elaborated on the organization’s projects within the country. Daudi Sumba from WWF-International addressed global environmental challenges and the strategic responses to them. Additional talks covered topics such as innovative freshwater conservation strategies by Stuart Orr and the intersection of Islamic finance with climate initiatives by Adnan Aziz of the Global Islamic Finance Program.
The symposium was attended by over a hundred participants, including FCCU students and faculty, as well as representatives from other academic institutions, government bodies, and NGOs. This gathering underscored the community’s shared commitment to advancing environmental conservation and sustainable development practices.
