The visit started with a brief introduction to the remarkable story of the creation of Indus Hospital. Students then visited the Physical Rehabilitation Center where they observed the process of developing a prosthetic/orthotic device (artificial limb), how it is administered to the patients with lower limb disability, met with patients who were being trained to walk with the devices and learnt about the patient’s inspiring stories of resilience.

The group then visited the state-of-the-art Blood Transfusion Services unit at the IHHN’s new hospital building. The students were briefed about the cutting-edge technology that the BTS is using to screen donated blood before it is sent for patient consumption.

Students were then taken to the Pediatric Complex where they met with pediatric oncology patients in the Day Care Area, Play Area and the Wards. In the Play Area the students conducted coloring and painting activities, played board games and video games and conducted a story telling session for the children. The fun-filled activities were thoroughly enjoyed by the patients as well as by the students. The activities ended with gift distribution amongst the patients and the students also donated books for Indus Kay Sitaray – IHHN’s hospital-based school.

The visit was part of the school’s social service program aimed to inculcate essential qualities of empathy, gratitude and giving back to the community in the students.
