Call for Urgent Measures to Mitigate Heat-Related Risks

Karachi, Officials from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan have issued a stark warning about the increased risk of heatstroke and the dire living conditions caused by severe heat, compounded by ongoing load shedding and water shortages. Hafiz Ahmad Ali, Deputy General Secretary, and Rana Muhammad Sabir, President of the Youth Wing Sindh, have urged both government and citizens to adopt urgent preventive measures to reduce the risk of heat-related fatalities.

According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, the extreme temperatures have heightened concerns for public safety, prompting calls for the establishment of heat stroke centers in all government hospitals and dispensaries. The leaders emphasized the necessity of staying indoors, avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun, and increasing intake of water and cold drinks. They also appealed to the electric administration to curtail unnecessary load shedding to ensure that residents, particularly housewives, can remain safely at home during the heatwave.

The call to action reflects a growing anxiety about the health impacts of the severe weather conditions affecting Karachi, stressing the need for comprehensive strategies to protect vulnerable populations and ensure community resilience against climate-related challenges.
