Islamabad: An awareness lecture on the dangers of drug abuse was held at the Female Campus, organized by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in collaboration with the Directorate of Students’ Affairs. The event aimed to educate students and faculty about the harmful effects of narcotics on physical, mental, and social well-being while promoting vigilance against drug-related activities.
According to International Islamic University Islamabad, Dr. Rabia Javed Bhatti, a Clinical Psychologist with the ANF, delivered a lecture describing addiction as a chronic disorder affecting brain circuits related to reward, stress, and self-control. She emphasized that addiction is a medical and psychological condition requiring professional intervention, covering signs of drug abuse, prevention strategies, and the importance of destigmatizing addiction.
The session also addressed the legal ramifications of drug use and trafficking, urging participants to actively identify and address drug-related issues. Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Students’ Advisor, concluded the event by highlighting the growing challenge of drug abuse in academic institutions and the responsibility of the academic community to maintain a drug-free environment.
The event concluded with an awareness walk, as students, faculty, and ANF officials carried banners advocating for a drug-free society, demonstrating a shared commitment to combating drug abuse. The lecture and walk were considered successful in raising awareness and inspiring the academic community to unite against narcotics.
