Karachi: Amber Hussain, Head Nurse of Daycare Oncology at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), has received the distinguished DAISY Nurse Leaders Award, becoming the first Pakistani nurse to earn this global recognition for her exceptional patient care and compassion.
According to The Aga Khan University, the award was presented at a ceremony by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee on July 26, 2024. Ms. Hussain, who completed a fellowship at St. Jude’s in 2023, was honored for her exemplary work during her training at AKUH. The DAISY Award, established by the Daisy Foundation, is an international program that honors the profound impact nurses have on their patients and healthcare, with nominations reflecting commendations from patients, families, and colleagues.
Dr. Farhat Abbas, CEO of AKU Health Services Pakistan, praised Ms. Hussain’s dedication and expressed hope that her achievements would inspire her peers. Khairunnisa Hooda, Chief Nursing Officer at AKUH, highlighted Ms. Hussain’s innovative approaches to nursing as exemplary of the high standards maintained at the hospital. Professor Dr. Zehra Fadoo, Paediatric Oncology Chair, also commended her for her leadership in the Daycare Oncology unit.
Ms. Hussain’s recognition is part of a larger commitment by AKUH to promote excellence and innovation in nursing, setting new benchmarks in patient care within the region and globally.
