Karachi, August 12, 2023 (PPI-OT):The leadership of the IBA is cognizant of the distress of candidates who took exams in the month of May 2023. The matter was brought up in the Academic Council meeting today where it was decided in principle to facilitate the affected candidates. However, the operational aspects including, but not limited to, the policy proposal and the implementation of the matter were to be proposed by a committee to be formed by the Head of Testing Services.
The committee has proposed the following policy and implementation mechanism, which was duly approved by the Executive Director IBA but is still subject to the formal approval of the IBA Academic Board:
1. The weight of A level grades is as follows: A*/A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points, D=1 point, E/U=0 points.
2. The eligibility criteria would be average C in at least three subjects combined for all the undergraduate programs of the IBA, which translates into 6 points. Three best grades are to be counted in the calculation excluding E/U grades i.e. a minimum of three subjects with no subject grade below D.
3. For candidates not meeting the lowered eligibility criteria of average C in three subjects, provisional admission will be granted and a retake would be allowed. The retake would be allowed for only one subject and the candidate should meet the eligibility criteria before the commencement of Spring 2024 semester. The requirement would stay the same which the candidate needs to achieve i.e. a minimum C (average) / 6 points across three subjects after the retake of the single-subject exam. No grades should be below D.
4. In undergraduate programs (BS CS/Math/EM) where Math is a mandatory subject, the minimum grade in mathematics should be C, along with the criteria described above. In case a candidate is not able to meet this criterion, the candidate would be offered provisional admission with a chance to retake and clear mathematics subject with a C grade before commencement of Spring 2024 semester.
5. This policy is applicable exclusively on candidates who took the A levels exams during May / June of 2023.
6. Additionally, this policy is applicable on current intake only i.e. Fall 2023.
7. All cases will be vetted one by one based on the criteria laid out above by the committee members.
8. The document submission and Fee challan submission deadline for such cases will be extended until August 16th, 2023.
9. All such candidates are requested to email proof of their grades to the Admissions Department ([email protected]) which will issue revised fee challans. The candidates then can submit the required documents at the Program Office, IBA Main Campus by August 16, 2023.
