Self-Institutional Performance Evaluation 2022-23

Rawalpindi, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) conducted its fourth round of annual Self- Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) on March 14-15 2023. The self-review process was organized and facilitated by the Quality Assurance Directorate of NUMS. HEC had conducted NUMS First ever IPE in March 2018, and since then NUMS has been conducting its Self IPEs.

The prime objective of the IPE was to self-evaluate the performance of the university based on 11 quality standards mentioned in IPE manual of HEC. The panel comprised of four members, one external expert, Dr. Farrukh Idrees, Director QEC, National Defense University, Islamabad and three internal members including Brig Dr. Amir Rashid, Head of Biochemistry Department and Head LQEC (AM College), Air Cdre Muhammad Ismail, SI (M) (Retd), Consultant Quality Assurance and Dr. Erum Monis Deputy Director(DD) QA.

The Self-IPE activities commenced with detailed presentation by the DD QA on NUMS programs, polices, procedure and QA activities. The NUMS University Portfolio Report 2022-23 had already been presented to the panel members prior to the SIPE visit. Thereafter, the panel members reviewed the compliance report of the previous year followed by the reviewing of program files, faculty files, and students’ dossiers of all NUMS departments.

On the second day, the IPE panel members held meetings with Deans, Head of Departments, Faculty members and Students to examine the academic activities and recorded their live feedback at NUMS Main Campus at PWD. The panel inspected the facilities available on campus, by visiting the laboratories, classrooms and library and commended the rapid growth of the university with initiation of several new programs including two new PhD programs at NUMS.

Later, the panel dedicated time for discussion on SIPE findings, report consolidation and exit meeting with the Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI (M), Vice-Chancellor, NUMS. Dr. Farrukh Idrees, expressed his appreciation for all the efforts to organize the successful IPE activity and highlighted the institution’s commitment to improving medical education and healthcare facilities in Pakistan. He stated that NUMS, is playing a leading role in medical research and that projects such as the NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies and Research (NIASAR) and the upcoming NUMS Medical City are evidence of its efforts to reshape healthcare landscape to meet international standards.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude for reassuring him on the satisfactory functioning of university as per HEC defined criteria and presented a souvenir to Dr Farrukh Idrees as a token of appreciation. A group photo concluded the SIPE activities 2022-23.

Faculty of Science and Technology visit to Faisalabad

Lahore, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):UCP Delegates from the Faculty of Science and Technology, led by Dr. H. Rizwana Kauser, visited research institutes in Faisalabad from March 2-3., 2023. They had productive discussions with scientists and researchers at the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology, and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

The directors and scientists at these institutes appreciated the UCP team’s visit and the ideas presented during the discussion.

UCP Science and Engineering FEST 2023

Lahore, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Faculties of Science and Technology and Engineering jointly organized the first Science and Engineering Fest on March 7-8, 2023. The event received an overwhelming response from participants, their teachers, parents and peers. It featured various interactive activities, including poster presentations, project demonstrations, robotics competitions, brain fest, pet show, and math competitions. Around 500 students registered for multiple activities, and 300 more visited to see the participants showcase their talents.

Dr Nasser Ikram, Pro-Rector, UCP, was the chief guest and distributed shields among the sponsors and prizes to the winning students. The event stimulated an interest in pursuing professional studies in science and engineering. UCP believes that the nation needs its young minds to be oriented towards these fields to compete with the present and future world.

1st Meeting of the ORIC Steering Committee

Karachi, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):ORIC-DSU arranged its first steering committee meeting on 22nd March 2023 at the conference room. The progress of ORIC made over the last 6 months was presented to the steering committee and improvements were proposed by the experts to the policies under development by ORIC-DSU. Dr. Ahmad Hussain presented the activities conducted by ORIC and the Honourable PVC Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas chaired the meeting. Engr. Syed Muhammad Khubaib presented proposed 5-year plan to the committee and the committee discussed the improvements to be made in the plan. The committee also highlighted the thematic areas such as Energy, water, agriculture and waste management towards which the ORIC should focus on.

Free Skin Care Camp and Grooming Session

Karachi, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Office of Alumni Relations, in collaboration with its Corporate Partner Qube – Health and Wellness, organized a Free Skin Care Camp and Grooming Session for the DSU Fraternity. The camp and session took place at DSU’s Executive Lecture.

Theatre ELT on Tuesday, 21st March 2023, in which 30+ DSU Fraternity members, including Students, Alumni, Faculty and Staff, participated and availed the free consultation services. Upon the requests of DSU Fraternity members, Qube – Health and Wellness has agreed to hold another similar activity at the DSU campus soon.
