SAPM Faisal Karim Kundi attends 38th ministerial session of the COMCEC in Istanbul, Turkiye

Islamabad, November 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi has said that “the COVID-19 pandemic” has taken lives and overwhelmed health systems and economies at an unprecedented pace and scale. It has negatively impacted millions of individuals and has disproportionately affected the poor at a large scale. He said this while addressing the COMCEC 38thsession on “Pakistan’s Effective Social Assistance Provision and Socioeconomic Empowerment in the light of COVID-19 Pandemic”.

SAPM highlighted that Government of Pakistan allocated ~USD 1.23 billion to deliver one-time emergency cash to 16.9 million families, which came to over 109 million people, including minorities and transgender citizens. Through Benazir Income Support Program’s Emergency Cash disbursement, each family received USD 75, for immediate subsistence needs, he added.

Faisal Karim Kundi informed the participants that by utilizing BISP’s NSER data, a hybrid targeting approach was adopted, combining emergency assistance for the known vulnerable with demand-based support for the “new poor”. He said that The Millennium Development Goals (MDG) on poverty eradication was achieved five years ahead of schedule.

SAPM further said that Pakistan has faced death and destruction because of the recent floods, which has devastated the lives and infrastructure of around 33 million people in the country. Emergency aid of USD 312 million was distributed to 2.7 million families through a targeted mechanism under the Benazir Income Support Programme. Each family received USD 112 as part of this emergency disbursement, he added.

Faisal Kundi said that to address the challenges caused by malnutrition among vulnerable population, the existing BISP Nutrition (Nashonuma) Programme was expanded, and a Blanket Supplementary Food Programme was initiated in flood-affected regions to provide Specialized Nutritious Food (SNF) to over 12000 Pregnant and Lactating mothers and 11,200 children under the age of two. He said that it is a global responsibility to help vulnerable communities to fight the devastating impact of climate change so that they remain prepared for the future events.

President Zardari pays homage to the martyrs of PPP on Foundation Day

Islamabad, November 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Asif Ali Zardari on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Pakistan People’s Party, has paid homage to the heroes of the party who were martyred while standing firm on their ideology. Tributes were paid to those who have dedicated their lives for the party. President Zardari said that the PPP defeated three dictators for democracy, to emerge as victorious. Courage is the heritage of the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party and there is no doubt that the determination of the workers of the Party is also exemplary.

Asif Ali Zardari said that the Quaid-e-Awam, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto could have lived by bowing down before the dictator but he chose to sacrifice himself for the nation. The Madar-e-Jamhooriyat, Begum Nusrat Bhutto sacrificed everything for the sake of the country and the nation but never gave up. President Zardari said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, as a young girl resisted barbaric and brutal tyranny. The democratic struggle destroyed the idols of powerful dictators.

Asif Ali Zardari said that today the graveyard of Garhi Khuda Bakhsh is inhabited by martyrs, but there is no sign of the names of their killers anywhere. The former president said that we are the political followers of the Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. There is a difference between us and our opponents.

Faisal Karim Kundi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, attended the 38th COMEC Ministerial Meeting in Turkey

Islamabad, November 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the COVID-19 has still taken hold of the economy in the world and along with it the health system. Also affected on a large scale. He expressed these views while addressing the 38th session of COMCEC held in Turkey.

The Special Assistant said the Government of Pakistan allocated US$1.23 billion to provide one-time cash on an emergency basis to 16.9 million families, reaching more than 109 million people, including minorities and transgender citizens. He added that through the distribution of emergency cash by the Prime Minister to the flood-affected people under Benazirankam Support Program, 75 US dollars was provided to each family for immediate living needs.

Faisal Karim Kundi informed the participants that the affected families were accessed using BISP data. He said that the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) related to poverty alleviation were achieved five years ahead of schedule. The Special Assistant added that Pakistan is facing devastation due to the recent floods, which have destroyed the lives and infrastructure of around 33 million people in the country. Benazir Income Support Program disbursed 312 million US dollars of emergency assistance to 2.7 million families through a targeted mechanism.

Faisal Kandi said that to address the challenges posed by malnutrition, the existing BISP Nutrition (Nishwanma) program was expanded, and a blanket supplementary food program was launched in flood-affected areas to provide 12,000 Special Nutritious Food (SNF) can be provided to more than 11,200 people including pregnant and lactating mothers and 11,200 children under two years of age. He said that it is a global responsibility to help vulnerable nations like Pakistan fight the devastating effects of climate change and prepare for the future.

Business Administration Department organized a seminar on Roles and Responsibilities of Community in Sustainable Development

Karachi, November 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Business Administration Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) organized a seminar on Roles and Responsibilities of Community in Sustainable Development. Renowned social activist and Chairman Edhi Foundation, Mr. Faisal Edhi was the Chief Guest, while guest speaker was the noted motivational speaker, Sajid Hussain Khaskheli. The event was attended by a large number of students, faculty and staff members including Registrar Syed Sarfraz Ali and Siraj Khilji.

The Chief Guest and Chairman Edhi Foundation, Faisal Edhi, talked about the poverty, deprivation and desperate plight of ordinary people especially in rural Sindh. Emphasizing on the need of education, he said that illiteracy rate in Pakistan is increasing alarmingly and 20 million children are deprived of education today.

While other nations are discovering the opportunities of living at mars and moon, we have not yet been able to provide a little space for schooling to millions of young kids. He urged management and faculty of Sir Syed University to come forward to change the destiny of our people.

Addressing the seminar, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that we are willing to join hands for this noble cause. Educating children not only secures their personal life but collectively contributes to the development of a more reliable nation and the world. Education upgrades the thinking of society and helps to uproot social evils. It helps the uniform development of a country by fighting the inequalities of society.

Senior Officer Vendor and Compliance Management/Community Development Advisor ENI Pakistan, Sajid Hussain Khaskheli, underscored that resources in developing countries are depleting and many species are on the verge of extinction. The whole world is imbalance as the accumulation of wealth rests in the hands of few individuals, resulting hunger and starvation in the society.

Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Chairman Business Administration Department, Dr. Ammad ul Haq, urged to inculcate conducive environment for community development. He emphasized on the provision of a platform for students, which can sustain these sorts of culture and courses according to the global perspective in order to disseminate knowledge with letter and spirits.

Earlier welcoming the gusts, Registrar Syed Sarfraz Ali said that society development empowers community members and builds stronger and more connected communities. We hope that this event would pave way for joining hands with other communities and give our students opportunity to volunteer for the sake of humanity.

Dialogue between ISSI and CPAPD

Islamabad, November 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Arms Control and Disarmament Centre (ACDC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) held an online “Dialogue Between ISSI and CPAPD” on November 29, 2022. Team ACDC and ISSI experts attended the meeting including Ms Amina Khan, Director CAMEA; Ms Ghazala Yasmin Jalil, Research Fellow; Ms Mahrukh Khan, Research Fellow; Ms Ume Farwa, Research Associate; and Mr Taimur Khan.

Malik Qasim Mustafa, Director ACDC, made introductory remarks on the regional and global security dynamics. Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General ISSI, in his welcome remarks spoke of the Pakistan China friendship and the enormous progress China has made as well as regional security developments. Mr An Yuejun, Secretary General CPAPD, also made remarks and talked about issues of interest to China and its security milieu.
