Visit of Delegation of 52 Pakistan Navy Staff Course by Pakistan Navy War College

Islamabad, October 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted a delegation composed of 52 Pakistan Navy Staff Course by Pakistan Navy War College. The delegation was led by Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan. Dr Talat Shabbir, Director China-Pakistan Study Centre (CPSC) at ISSI gave an overview of the Institute’s structure and activities. Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General ISSI, gave an assessment of regional and global politics and their impact on Pakistan.

He also highlighted choices Pakistan has to deal with regarding the ongoing regional and global issues. Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan appreciated ISSI’s contribution in the domain of narrative building. He underscored the importance of having a deeper understanding of the global environment in order to formulate policies that address Pakistan’s national interests. The briefing was also followed by an interactive discussion.

IBA and AKU collaborate to promote research in Data Science 

Karachi, October 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS), IBA and the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Aga khan University (AKU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the model proposed under the project title ‘Prediction of Outcomes Using Recurrent Neural Networks in Critically Ill Children’. The MoU signing ceremony was held at Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, AKU.

Dr. Shakeel Khoja, Dean SMCS, IBA, and Dr. Fyezah Jehan, Chair, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, AKU, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutes. This collaboration aims to develop a deep learning methodology, namely a long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network (RNN) for the continuous assessment of critically ill paediatric patients and to predict the risk of mortality of critically ill children using the recurrent neural network system.

The IBA-SMCS team included Dr. Tariq Mahmood, Professor and Program Coordinator, MS CS and MS DS programs; Hira Zahid, PhD Scholar, Department of CS; and Mr. Usama Qadeer, Senior Executive, Industrial Linkages SMCS. AKU was represented by Dr. Naveed ur Rehman, Project Lead; Dr. Qalab Abbas, Project Co-Lead; Dr. Zainab Samad, Chair, Department of Medicine, Director, Health Data Science Centre, AKU; Dr. Imran Nisar, Vice Chair, Research, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health; Ms. Salima Sherali, Manager, Research and Grants Administration, Paeds; Mr. Haseeb Khan, Assistant Manager, Research and Grants Administration, Paeds; and Mr. Akber Madhwani, Sr. Coordinator, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The event commenced with the attendees introduction, after which Dr. Rehman and Dr. Mahmood discussed the collaboration between the parties. Sharing his remarks Dr. Khoja said that “The School of Mathematics and Computer Science is excited about establishing research links with AKU”. The ceremony ended with a souvenir distribution.

NUST hosts delegation of Plus W Inc. from Japan

Islamabad, October 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):NUST welcomed a delegation of Plus W Inc. headed by Ms Wakako Sakurai, to explore the possibility of enhancing cooperation and collaboration between NUST and Japanese companies through the Pak Japan Center.

Ms Sakurai who is also the founder and CEO of Plus W was accompanied by Executive Vice President and COO – Mr Takashi Horiuchi, Head of Pakistan Business – Mr Taro Kanzawa and Head of Offshore Development – Mr Yuji Tsuchiya. The delegation was welcomed by the Head of the Pak Japan Center – Mr Kango Hayashi, the Vice Head of Pak Japan Center – Ms Arooba Gillani, and Chief Consultant Pak Japan Center – Mr Umair Munir.

The dignitaries visited Pak Japan Center in National Science and Technology Park followed by a courtesy call on to Pro-Rector RIC – Dr Rizwan Riaz. Director National Center of Artificial Intelligence – NCAI, Pakistan – Dr Yasir Ayaz attended the meeting as well.

The subsequent discussions were focused on the potential for cooperation between the Pak Japan Center and NUST, the launching of a Japanese language programme at NUST and other avenues for mutual interest that could potentially lead to the expansion of collaborative efforts.

Officials from Plus W Pakistan praised the quality of the infrastructure and the state-of-the-art facilities that were being offered to the Pak Japan Center by NUST. Pro-Rector RIC Dr Rizwan Riaz presented souvenirs to the members of the delegation.

SESS organizes a distinguished seminar on Charter of Economy

Karachi, October 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Economics, School of Economics and Social Sciences (SESS), IBA held an engaging and interactive session on Charter of Economy with distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Nadeem ul Haque, Vice Chancellor, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad.

The session was graced by Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, IBA Karachi, Dr. Asma Hyder, Dean, SESS and other distinguished faculty members. The IBA students also attended the event. The session began with Dr. Asma delivering the opening note and introducing the guest speaker.

The speaker, Dr. Haque, highlighted the flawed development policy of Pakistan, the misplaced focus upon politics, and the lack of opportunities for the youth. The session emphasized the need for having a Charter of Economy based on the exchange of ideas and developing a culture of healthy debate. An interactive Q and A session ensued after the session. The event concluded with which Dr. Asma presenting the memento to Dr. Haque.

BTD and BFD filled all seats with the first merit list 2022 

Faisalabad, October 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):School of Arts and Design focuses to train professionals on modern lines with latest knowledge and experience of design. In addition to improvement in the scheme of studies with the discussion of faculty, Alumni and industrial experts, School of Arts and Design is continuously upgrading its infrastructure, machinery, and equipment in laboratories annually.

It’s because of the concern of Dean Dr. Zafar Javed, all dedicated design faculty and staff member’s efforts two programs of SOAD, BTD and BFD successfully filled all seats in the first list with the aggregate merit of 96.6 percent for BTD and 96 percent for BFD.
