Announcement – Post Doctorate in Geography 

 

Lahore, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Geography offers Post Doctorate in the subject of Geography and allied disciplines. This Department has all the infrastructural and academic facilities to admit, accommodate and supervise Postdoctoral scholars. In addition to a qualified faculty member to supervise Postdocs, we have a separate research room for scholars, well-equipped Remote Sensing and GIS labs, and a seminar library with more than 13,500 books on various ramifications of Geography.

In order to enrol as a Postdoctoral scholar, the candidate should have his/her PhD degree in Geography or allied disciplines from any national or international University or Institute of Higher Education and preferably be associated to a university or teaching and/or research organization. In service applicants must have an NOC from their parent organisation before their enrolment as postdoctoral scholar.

The enrolled scholar shall complete 9 months to a one-year period of Postdoctoral stay at the Department. During his/her Postdoc stay, the scholar shall deliver one colloquium on the topic of his/her research project/proposal.

The enrolled scholar shall complete his/her research work up to the satisfaction of the advisor within the stipulated time. In addition to this, the scholar shall be required to publish at least one paper with post doc supervisor in the HEC refereed journal. In addition to this, the scholar is required to attend two national and/or one international conferences and present his/her research works (certificates of presenting the papers/posters is mandatory).

Hostel facility is not available to the scholar.

Pakistani medical college receives international award in curriculum development 

 

Karachi, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Aga Khan University’s Medical College has been awarded the Association for Medical Education in Europe, AMEE’s 2022 ASPIRE-to-Excellence Award in curriculum development. It is the only academic institution across the globe to win in this category of the ASPIRE awards this year.

“The award recognises AKU’s excellence in curriculum development, which is aligned with local health needs, incorporates modern technology, supports faculty development, ensures students’ learning in multiple healthcare settings, and provides them with a positive and supportive environment,” said Dr Sadaf Khan, the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and Associate Professor of Surgery at AKU, who received the award at the AMEE Lyon 2022 conference held in Lyon, France. “This award recognises the dedication and expertise of our education leadership and faculty since the initiation of the programme,” she added.

“This is indeed a moment of pride for Pakistan and its academic community,” said Dr Adil Haider, Dean of AKU Medical College. He lauded the faculty and staff for “their outstanding contributions in maintaining the highest academic quality”.

It is the third ASPIRE award AKU has received. The previous two were awarded for Excellence in Assessment and Student Engagement. AMEE is an international association for health professions education with members in over 90 countries across five continents that promotes excellence in healthcare education.

University Partnerships Grants Program Team of FJWU Delivers Faculty Development Training to Universities of Punjab Province

Rawalpindi, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Under the workshop series of US-Pakistan University Partnerships Grants project funded by US Government and administered by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan, Fatima Jinnah Women University completed three days extensive training on Curriculum Development with partner universities of Punjab Province including Government College Women University Faisalabad and University of Sargodha.

The closing ceremony of the workshop series was addressed by Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal, Vice Chancellor Rawalpindi Women University. Dr. Kamal highlighted the significance of upgradation of University curriculum according to international standards. Prof. Dr. Sadia Saleem, Dean School of Professional Psychology, University of Management and Technology Lahore, attended the ceremony as Guest of Honour. Dr. Aneela Maqsood, Project Principal Investigator, briefed the project targets and deliverables to workshop participants.

The ‘Faculty Development Training Framework’ is developed under the advisory of Dr. Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University. The training addresses indigenous needs along with integrating the global perspective of quality curriculum and teaching pedagogy.

Pakistan consultant trainers from Fatima Jinnah Women University include Dr. Aneela Maqsood, Dr. Adeela Rehman, Dr. Shazia Hashmat, and Dr. Shaheryar Naveed. Pakistan trainers delivered training on methods of developing the course outlines, integrating technology in classrooms, curriculum evaluation in higher education, and various aspects of teaching pedagogical skills.

From the United States, Prof Dr. Michael Hirsch (Dean College of Arts and Sciences, Huston-Tillotson University) and Dr. Sadaf Sajjad (Associate Professor, Austin Community College) delivered training on quality curriculum and incorporating the global aspects of curriculum development.

IoBM and NUST to Collaborate on Research and Innovation 

Karachi, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Institute of Business Management (IoBM) and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) signed a memorandum of agreement to develop academic cooperation and collaborate on research projects. The signing ceremony was held on September 1, 2022, at IoBM. The areas of interest for cooperation with NUST include Environment and Energy Management, IT, Finance, Business Management, Psychological Research, Education, and HR. The signatories were Mr. Talib Karim, President IoBM and Dr. Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector for Research, Innovation and Commercialisation, NUST.

During his Welcome Address, Mr. Talib Karim said that institutes should learn from each other’s best practices. He was hopeful that public and private sector universities will work in an environment conducive to learning and research. He urged that the faculty of business and social sciences should pursue projects related to innovation and commercialization.

Dr. Rizwan Riaz shared how NUST is contributing to the educational sector of Pakistan. He added that NUST is looking forward to collaborating with IoBM to create avenues of industrial research and innovation. Dr. Hamood Ur Rahman, Director, Research and ORIC, NUST; Ms. Maria Qadri, Director, University Advancement Office, NUST, and Dr. Samra Javed, Director ORIC, IoBM were also present. This ceremony was attended by IoBM’s Deans, Directors, and management.

HBL PSL Governing Council meeting held in Lahore 

Lahore, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Governing Council of the HBL Pakistan Super League met at the National High Performance Centre in Lahore today. All six HBL PSL franchises were represented along with PCB officials who are members of the GC. Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Rameez Raja chaired the meeting.

The meeting started with the Chairman PCB congratulating the GC on a hugely successful and record-breaking HBL PSL 7 edition which was the first one ever to be staged in Pakistan uninterrupted since the start of the league in 2016. The successful organisation of the tournament was made possible despite significant external challenges and record revenue and viewership was attained through the two action-packed leagues in Karachi and Lahore.

Some important discussions around the scheduling for the next edition of the HBL PSL were made. It was decided that the HBL PSL 8 will run from 9 February to 19 March 2023. At least four venues will be used for hosting the matches, including Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Multan. Further discussions for firming up the detailed schedule will take place between the franchises and the PCB in due course.

The franchises were also given an update on the status of accounts for HBL PSL 7. During the GC an update was provided in respect of commercial matters related to HBL PSL 7 and HBL PSL 8. Follow-up meetings will commence next week to finalise plans for HBL PSL 8 with all in agreement to work closely in the build-up to HBL PSL 8 to achieve their common goals for the league.

UE Dispatched First Batch of 15 Tons of Relief Goods and Medical Team for Flood Victims 

Lahore, September 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):On the directions of the Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh-ul-Rehman, University of Education, and Lahore has dispatched the first batch of 15 tons of relief goods to the countrymen affected by worst floods and rains, along with a team of senior medical officer, staff, teachers and students under the supervision of Director Student Affairs Dr. Muhammad Umar Saleem on September 1, 2022.

This team will organize 4-day medical camp in various flood-affected areas of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan Districts. Free medicines will be provided along with check-ups by senior doctors in these medical camps.

With the cooperation of teachers, staff and students, University of Education, Lahore collected 15 tons of relief goods including medicines, clothes, rice, ghee, sugar, dry fruits for the flood victims in a very short time from University relief centers. UE also issued the account number of National Bank of Pakistan (IBAN: PK38NBPA1669003036035243) for depositing funds.

Talking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor University of Education, Lahore Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) said that it is impossible to describe the sufferings of our compatriots due to the worst flood. By attending to them, we can surely heal their wounds.

Today we need to show the same passion to help the poor Pakistanis that the local people showed for the poor people who migrated during the establishment of Pakistan. The Vice-Chancellor has once again appealed for full assistance to the flood victims. A large number of teachers, staff and students were present on this occasion, including Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arsha, Director SnT Prof. Dr. Muhammad Alam Saeed.
