1 in 5 (21%) Pakistanis have had to visit a dentist during the past year: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, August 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 1 in 5 (21%) Pakistanis have had to visit a dentist during the past year. These visits account for around 20 million adults who say they have visited a dentist in past one year.

AccordingtoPMDC,ttps://www.pbs.gov.pk/sites/default/files/tables/social_statistics/Registered_DentalDoctor.pdf there are only 25,000 or so qualified dentists. The number of visits and available trained dentists in Pakistan do not match and therefore it is safe to assume that people visit quacks or unqualified dentists in large numbers. UN regulated dental procedures are linked to spread of various diseases including severely damaging diseases such as Hepatitis as well as AIDS.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the question “Have you had to visit a dentist during the past year or not?” In response, 21% said yes, 78% said no and 1% said they do not know or gave no response.
