Zardari Calls for Unified Action on World Hepatitis Day

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari marked World Hepatitis Day by emphasizing the urgent need for a coordinated national response to tackle the growing threat of hepatitis in Pakistan. The disease, often referred to as a “silent killer,” has been silently progressing, causing irreversible liver damage and posing a significant public health challenge.

Millions in Pakistan suffer from hepatitis, often diagnosed late due to a lack of awareness and inadequate healthcare services. The rising incidence of the disease is straining the country’s healthcare system and economy.

In his message, President Zardari underscored the importance of implementing comprehensive strategies to combat hepatitis. These include mass awareness campaigns, effective vaccination drives, timely screening, and improved access to treatment, particularly in underserved and rural areas. He also highlighted the need for training healthcare workers, enforcing infection control protocols, and strengthening the regulation of medical and blood transfusion practices.

Raising public awareness is central to the efforts against hepatitis, Zardari noted. By educating the population on the risks, individuals can better protect themselves and their families. He urged for a unified response, calling on government institutions, healthcare professionals, private sector partners, media, and civil society to join hands in combating the disease.

President Zardari concluded by reminding stakeholders that hepatitis is both preventable and treatable, and through collective efforts, a healthier, hepatitis-free future is achievable.
